Gary Clark Jr Blak And Blu
Being a prodigy can be a difficult proposition. Some like Derek Trucks meet expectations. Others never seem to break through. In Gary Clark Jr.’s case, he not only meets the expectations, he exceeds them. After his successful Bright Light EP from 2011, he has returned with an adventurous new album Black And Blu. He’s firmly rooted in the blues as you hear right off the bat with “Ain’t Messin’ Around” leading into “When My Train Pulls In”. He has a throwback sound on the rocking “Travis County” and the decidedly delta blues leaning “Next Door Neighbor Blues”. He also takes a variety of left turns by including R&B infused tracks like “The Life” and the soulful “Please Come Home”. Rarely do artists explore a variety of styles like Clark does here, let alone the variety of era’s he includes. At the same time every song sounds right at home here in 2012. Expect this rising star to continue soaring into the future.
