WSGE DeeJay Feature: Buzz Gibson
Buzz Gibson is a native Charlottean. He attended Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL after graduating from West Mecklenburg High School.
Buzz is a well-known Charlotte-community member. He is proud father of two – “Poppy” to five wonderful grandchildren and retired from “keeping American Strong” after 34 years working on the railroad. Buzz enjoys the freedom of retirement by traveling when possible, attending lots of live music events around Charlotte, sometimes even sitting in on stage! You may have caught him onstage during one of the famous Double Door’s final nights, with the Loose Lugnuts (pictured below).
Buzz is probably most famous for his help with the art and decor at some of Charlotte’s most iconic establishments. He contributed to the artwork of the famous “beaver” at the Thirsty Beaver, as well as the new “Tipsy Burro” off 7th Street. (pictured above) The Thirsty Beaver resides off Central Avenue and attracts musicians, like Hayes Carll, after their shows to play a late-night encore concert for locals in a perfect small space.
Buzz was raised on radio and always considered himself a huge fan of all music. He discovered WSGE years ago and was attracted to the diverse mix of music and found the station to be a huge asset for the local music scene he loved. Buzz stumbled across the Announcing Workshop while surfing the web and decided to give it a shot! After completing the workshop in 2015 – Buzz signed on as the Thursday midday DeeJay for Rock, Rhythm and Blues – lending his unique, deep voice to the airwaves at 91.7fm.
“I am extremely proud to be a part of independent radio, and I always look forward to coming across the river to spend Thursdays with the listeners of WSGE” – Buzz Gibson
Join Buzz on Thursdays from 11:00am – 2:00pm as he highlights popular and local Charlotte music for his listeners on WSGE 91.7fm.
